Get your DIY skills on with this gorgeous rustic woven basket that you produced yourself! Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be able to make my very own handcrafted basket, but I did, and it was a breeze!

There are a few steps involved in this craft, but overall, it is a straightforward job. Create your very own one-of-a-kind woven basket by setting aside some time this week.

With my rustic rope-covered bottle vase, this basket is a fantastic complement to the arrangement. It would be a wonderful idea to put them on display on your mantle.

Instructions for Woven Baskets

Rustic Woven Basket

  • There was a time when I felt manufacturing my own baskets was impossible. Once I learned how easy thread weaving actually is, there was no going back!

  • When something like this is also utilitarian for carrying items like flowers, craft supplies, or even additional candles or matches, it is one of my favorite things to do. I have made a lot of different woven rustic crafts.

  • When placed on a table or mantel, this rustic appearance is one of my favorites. You can add this basket to your mantle and fill it with flowers or even long matches for lighting your fireplace.

  • It looks amazing next to my rustic candle holder and the rustic wooden clock. There is just about the rustic style that is calming to me. It just makes your home feel more quiet and calm.

Can I Use A Different Color Thread?

My preference for making anything rustic is this tan or brown twine. If you prefer ribbon or colored threads, you may easily follow the same method to build a basket with a different hue.

This is a lesson that you might even use to construct holiday-specific baskets. Weave red and green ribbons into the basic basket for Xmas. Orange and black would look wonderful for Halloween.

You could even put in blue and silver for the new year. There are hundreds of various colors you may easily add to the weaving process to make your basket distinctive.

What Should I Use My Basket For?

  • This actually relies upon how huge you create the basket. A smaller basket is great for using for flowers, or even on your dining table for cutlery.

  • You may also use it for a basket to keep scarp cloth in your craft area or crayons and markers for your coloring books.

  • Think outside the box. Need a spot to keep something out of site? Make a woven basket in the size you need!

How to Make a Rustic Woven Basket

Rustic Woven Basket

  • Gather your goods and pick out a plastic can, container, or flower pot to use as the base of your basket.

  • You will cut the upper lip of the flower container off if that is what you choose. Otherwise, you will make sure that the top of your can or pot is even and smooth without a lip or overhang.

  • Next, you will take the dowels and connect them to the plastic container with hot glue. I recommend trimming the wooden sticks to the same length and how tall you want the basket to be before you begin gluing in place.

  • You will leave at least 1cm between each stick when you glue them in place.

  • Begin at the bottom of the can and glue one end of your thread to the bottom edge over the sticks.

  • You will then proceed to weave the thread inside and out of the wooden sticks glue every few inches to bind the thread to the container and sticks.

  • Continue this technique until you have weaved the basket as tall as you want it to be. When you are done, clip the end and glue in place.

  • For decoration, you can braid part of the thread and then attach the braid around the top and bottom sides of the basket. You may also choose to add lace, cloth flowers, or other similar decorations to complement the basket.
